idk who needs to hear this rn but suffering is not noble. take the tylenol

One time when I was younger I was refusing to take headache medicine and my mom said “the person who invented that medicine is probably so sad you won’t let them help you” and now every time I find myself denying medicine I just imagine the saddest scientist making those big wet eyes like “why won’t you let me help” and whoop then I take the medicine

2/2 - pictures from the purse museum

was not expecting to get much out of a purse museum but ended up having a great time. they talked about how historical fashion (and mostly women’s fashion–it was kind of a feminist museum, which was surprising. also very intentionally inclusive of Black women, which was great to see) from 1900 through 1999 was affected by current events and social movements.

it was really well-presented and interesting! plus it was cool to see all the little trinkets people would have carried around with them.

The Mackinac Bridge, Michigan USA was the longest suspension bridge in the world when it opened on November 1, 1957, at 8 km in length, it rises 168 m above the water surface at its highest point.

Bridges scare the living day-lights out of me. This is one of the scariest in the country. The road surface is 200 ft above the water and the cross-winds are fierce. Many people (including me) simply cannot bring themselves to drive across it. Fortunately, the Mackinac Bridge Authority provides a “Driver Assistance Program”. As you approach the bridge, there is an area where you can pull over, call the MBA, and they will send someone to drive your vehicle across. It only costs $10 (each way) + the appropriate toll for your vehicle type. Believe me… it’s the best $20 you have ever spent!

I’ve driven across this bridge many many times and never knew that was a thing! One of my favorite things about this bridge is the fact that large portions of the bridge are open grate, so as you’re driving on it you can actually see through to the water below.

what I wouldn’t give to have the gastric constitution of a nine-year-old again. like you know when you’re in grade school and you’re like okay I’m gonna have some gushers and pizza and one of those dubious chalky grocery store cookies and then go run around with my friends! and now as an adult if I eat the wrong brand of peanut butter I have to lie down for an hour

seeing people in the notes who are like “it’s a good thing I can still eat whatever I want 😇” and they’re like, 19… I was you once. and in a couple years you might start to suspect that your favorite fast food joint is giving you mild food poisoning every time you eat there. they’re not. it’s the milkshakes. go buy some lactase pills.

The long wavelengths of the light spectrum—red, yellow, and orange—can penetrate to approximately 15, 30, and 50 meters (49, 98, and 164 feet), respectively, while the short wavelengths of the light spectrum—violet, blue and green—can penetrate further, to the lower limits of the euphotic zone. Blue penetrates the deepest, which is why deep, clear ocean water and some tropical water appear to be blue most of the time. Moreover, clearer waters have fewer particles to affect the transmission of light, and scattering by the water itself controls color. Water in shallow coastal areas tends to contain a greater amount of particles that scatter or absorb light wavelengths differently, which is why sea water close to shore may appear more green or brown in color.

Fun fact! This is why there are some sea creatures in the twilight zone in the ocean who use red pigment to camoflauge. Red light doesn’t reach down that far, so there isn’t any light to reflect and the animals appear black.

The lack of boomer LGBTQ+ people isn’t because it’s “more popular now.” Many were murdered by their peers, died from government inaction during the AIDS crisis, committed suicide due to lack of social supports, or have had to live in the closet due to their peers’ cruelty.
Photo of the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus, showing most of the members in black suits with their backs turned to the camera: they represent those lost to AIDS. A handful are dressed in white, facing the camera.

“The men in white are the surviving members of the Original San Francisco Gay Men’s Choir. Those in black represent the members lost to AIDs. Remember this when people say the gay community survived the epidemic. We had to start over because we lost a whole generation.” (original post)

Yesterday, I was helping my friends sell art in the park, when a couple of girls came up to us and asked (immediately regretting it) “is this the transfem picnic?……..” to which we got to respond “no this is the transmasc yard sale.” We then proceeded to have 15-20+ beautiful women swarm our stand of 4 creatures. Life is beautiful.
